Karim was 46 years old. This policeman from the night brigade of the Angoulême police station committed suicide on Tuesday evening at his home. A huge shock for his colleagues, many of whom learned of it by an email sent this Wednesday morning by the boss of the police station, the DDSP Bruno Gallot. According to the representative of the Alliance union in Charente, this suicide is a first at the police stationa community of 200 people including 170 police officers.
An investigation has been opened by the Angoulême prosecutor’s office to understand the causes of this suicide. Originally from the Paris region, Karim had appreciated the Charente which he had discovered on vacation, and had chosen to settle there two or three years ago. After working in an investigation service, Karim had joined the night brigade a few months ago.
As is the procedure in these situations, staff can have access to a psychological support, in particular via dedicated telephone numbers. The drama will also be discussed on Thursday, during a CHSCT already scheduled in the Charente prefecture.
