(Ottawa) The Conservative Party announces that the event scheduled for Saturday to reveal the identity of its next leader will take place as planned, but in a more sober way.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday prompted the party to review the program for this partisan and festive gathering, which will now take place in the midst of official mourning, according to royal protocol.
After learning of her death on Thursday, the chairman of the leadership election organizing committee, Ian Brodie, said he would look for ways to announce the election results in a manner that respects the sovereign.
In a brief statement on Friday, Brodie confirmed that the event in Ottawa will take place as planned on Saturday at 6 p.m., but “with a revised schedule that reflects the passing” of the Queen.
We now plan to open the event with a tribute to Elizabeth II, and drop during the evening segments or effects that were to be more festive, such as the release of confetti to greet the new direction.
The Conservative Party sold seats at $150 a ticket to attend the announcement at an Ottawa convention center. Conservative activists are expected from across the country.
