(Monza) Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari) set the fastest time of the 2e Italian Grand Prix free practice session, 16e round of the Formula 1 World Championship on Friday at the Monza circuit (5.793 km) in Monza.

Leader of the championship seven races from the end of the season, Max Verstappen followed very closely, as did the other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, his pursuer in the championship at 109 points. The three pilots hold each other in less than two tenths of a second.

The session was interrupted for several minutes due to the stop on the track of Mick Schumacher (Haas), victim of an engine problem.

At the start of the afternoon, it was Leclerc who had taken the best time in front of the Scuderia supporters.
