A jersey worn by NBA legend Michael Jordan in his final season with the Chicago Bulls (1997-98) could fetch $5 million and become ‘the most expensive basketball jersey sold at auction’ as goes under the hammer this week at Sotheby’s.

“It really is one of the rarest and most coveted items you can put on the market,” says Brahm Wachter, head of modern objects and collectibles at Sotheby’s.
The sale will take place in New York from September 6 to 14.
“What’s really interesting about sporting goods is that there’s a kind of mass appeal,” adds Wachter. In the case of the 1998 final, it is the most-watched final, and still is today, years later. So if you think about all the people who watched that final and how many people have had success in their lives since then, you see that the market is really, really big. »
