Corruption allegations | A municipal manager and a businessman arrested by UPAC

A municipal manager from the City of Montreal and a businessman were arrested on Wednesday by the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC) to face charges of corruption and breach of trust.

The head of the permits and inspections division of the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Sadek Lazzouzi, is suspected of having illegally intervened in favor of businessman Tinel Timu in a case of non-compliance with regulations municipal.

Mr. Timu, for his part, “attempted to bribe employees of the Montreal municipal administration in order to obtain undue advantages,” according to the UPAC press release. One of its employees, Elena Cristina Abrudan, would be involved, still according to the police force.

“The diligence of City of Montreal employees in denouncing the scheme, the acts of which were observed from September 2021 to February 2022, enabled UPAC investigators to act quickly in this file,” reports UPAC.
