AS Saint-Étienne announces this Tuesday the signature of Matthieu Dreyer for two years. The goalkeeper, arrives from FC Lorient, whose colors he has been wearing since 2020. The Alsatian is the eighth recruit for the summer transfer window of the Greens. At 33, he therefore becomes the understudy of Étienne Green. We should quickly see Matthieu Dreyer at work since, in all likelihood, he should replace Étienne Green on August 27, during the trip to Valenciennes. The number one goalkeeper is indeed suspended after the red card and the rout against Le Havre.
But beyond the sporting emergency, Matthieu Dreyer is also recruited to give the group the benefit of his experience and his maturity. “I will do everything, he said, to help everyone progress and allow the team to win as many games as possible is the most important thing.”
A maturity that should benefit the group
Trained at FC Sochaux, the club with which he started his professional career, in 2007, Matthieu Dreyer experienced the Ligue and Ligue 2. The porter went through Fréjus, Troyes, Caen, Amiens and finally FC Lorient. He also had 35 international selections (U16, U17, U18, U20 and Espoirs).
This broad experience, Laurent Batlles, the coach of the Greens, hopes to benefit his troops: “Matthew, […] will bring us his maturity and his serenity, especially at the level of the group of goalkeepers who are quite young. His arrival in the workforce will help Noah Raveyre to grow and submit Etienne Green to competition. This emulation will promote the performance of goalkeepers and benefit the whole team. It will offer us an additional solution in the event of injury or suspension in a championship that we know is very long.”
