It’s a well-established scam whose owner of a bar in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) was one of the first victims. Two months ago, his payment terminal was stolen and replaced by an identical one. “The guy comes with a satchel. Inside, he has his credit card machine. When the server is serving another customer. The amount paid by the customer goes directly to the scammer’s account. The owner of the bar does not realize this until twenty days later, when the local restaurateurs’ union gives the alert. On part of his receipts, he discovers that it is not the letterhead of his company. Since the beginning of the summer in Cannes, a dozen restaurants have been victims of this scam. Several investigations have been opened. A Parisian restaurateur has thus personalized its payment terminals to avoid everything flight.
