This is one of the most famous exchanges of the film Camping, filmed in an establishment which borders the dune of Pilat (Gironde). Sf you come every year, why don’t you buy a little house? – Well, because afterwards, we’ll have to come here every year! – But since you’ve been coming for 30 years? – Yes, but there, if you want, you can go elsewhere! That’s camping!”

In the summer of 2022, the five Pilat campsites, including the “Blue Flots”, were destroyed by the fire which ravaged 7,000 hectares in La Teste-de-Buch. Like the inhabitants of the regions affected by this destruction, holidaymakers have seen firsthand the devastating effects of heat and drought on a place that is dear to them. And they may be forced, next year, to “go away”.

Dry Verdon Gorges, metamorphosed landscapes in the Doubs, risk of landslides in the Alps linked to high temperatures, fire in the Monts d’Arrée and temperatures exceeding 30°C in Finistère… Everywhere in mainland France, the landscape and nature have suffered in this summer season from the consequences of rising temperatures. Have you noticed these effects yourself during your vacation? Tourist, seasonal or used to a natural site near you, have you seen your corner of paradise deteriorate? How do you experience the loss of these places associated with so many memories?
