We know the starting grid for the Grand Prix de France. Charles Leclerc will start from Castellet to pole position, Sunday, after being the fastest in qualifying, this Saturday July 23, on the Var circuit. The Monegasque, well helped by his teammate Carlos Sainz, doubly penalized for having made changes to his single-seater, overtook the championship leader, Max Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez (Red Bull). Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Lando Norris (McLaren) follow on the starting grid.

Ferrari had opted for a team strategy which paid off: Sainz, having nothing to play for in this qualifying session because of his penalties, played the pilot fish game in Q3. He placed himself just in front of Leclerc who did not fail to take advantage of his teammate’s suction to improve his top speed. The 24-year-old driver, who signs the sixteenth pole of his career, the seventh of the season, will attempt the double after winning last Sunday in Austria.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Alpine) will start from 7th place on Sunday. Huge disappointment on the other hand in the Var for the French. Esteban Ocon was eliminated in Q2 and Pierre Gasly from the first part of qualifying. “Since this morning, it’s more complicated. We don’t know why. We’re going to have to analyze, but I’m very disappointed. Tomorrow? It’s never over. We’re going to do everything to get back together”however, recalled the pilot Alpha Tauri at the microphone of Canal +.
