The James Webb Telescope, which revealed the first pictures of hundreds of galaxies on Monday July 11, marks a historic breakthrough for astronomy.
On Monday, July 11, the James Webb telescope unveiled the first photographs of galaxies, which will notably make it possible to understand how that of the Earth appeared. “It’s historic because these are the first of a long series”declares Guillaume Langin, journalist for the magazine Sky and space, Tuesday July 12. “James Webb set out to make observations for more than ten years, reaping a harvest of extraordinary images and scientific data”says the journalist.
“James Webb took photographs of stars, which are at distances more or less close to our world”continues Guillaume Langin. “We have photographed other galaxies seen from the outside, which are in the process of merging. This is the future of our galaxy since a great collision with another galaxy awaits it. It is also the past since our milky way has probably had collisions”explains the journalist.
