Supply issues continue to seriously disrupt global auto production, which has a direct effect on the number of vehicles sold in the country. According to the firm DesRosiers, the sales figures for June reflect an extraordinary drop in transactions not seen in 13 years.

According to the data collected, 143,773 new vehicles found buyers over the past month. To see a lower figure, you have to go back to 2009, a year of recession during which June sales fell below the 140,000 unit mark. DesRosiers also points out that the sales volume for June 2022 is even lower than that of June 2020 (156,327 vehicles), when we were in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, not everyone is affected in the same way, that goes without saying. Ford thus increased its market share by 1.2% during the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year. It remains well ahead, with 15.2% of the Canadian market. Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, etc.) also increased its weight with 11.9% of the Canadian market, or 1.8% more than during the first six months of 2021.
It is nevertheless to Genesis that returns the most significant increase in sales compared to the previous year. Hyundai’s luxury brand has sold 56.9% more vehicles year-to-date than a year ago.
Here again, the watchword remains patience for those who have been waiting for many months for the arrival of their new vehicle. With the gradual rise in interest rates in parallel, the industry is not out of the crisis.
