Seen from the sky, the wound is still gaping. Three years to the day after the fire that ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris, Emmanuel Macron comes to take stock of the work, Friday April 15. During the fire in 2019, he had promised to reopen the cathedral to the public within five years. The 2024 objective is still in sight, even if it is certain that the restoration work will extend beyond that.
Coincidentally, the anniversary of the disaster coincides this year with Good Friday, the date on which Catholics commemorate the crucifixion of Christ. In the morning, a hundred believers and tourists gathered on the square to pray. “I saw the images live (…) it’s as if we were losing something that was part of us”, recalls a believer. After consolidation and dust removal, work continues, to return Notre-Dame to the faithful as quickly as possible.
