Ottawa: House sold for more than $800,000 of asking price

An Ottawa home sold this week for more than $800,000 off the asking price, an industry first, according to a local broker.

The property, located on Dufferin Road, was sold for more than $3.1 million when it was displayed at $2.3 million.

“We had a number of buyers who were very excited and made a great offer which the sellers were very happy to accept,” broker Christopher Barker told CTV News. “We didn’t think we had undervalued [la propriété]. We knew we had priced it aggressively to generate interest, but it was beyond our expectations.”

The property was built in 1994 and is part of an affluent district of the federal capital. “It’s a very popular area, and it’s very difficult to find this location in modern construction,” the broker added. “Finding something relatively modern is difficult.”

According to the Ottawa Real Estate Board, the average home sale price during the month of April is valued at $850,000, up 13% from last year.
