It is not today that we interpret Michel Legrand: only with the versions of Windmills of my heart, we would fill a safe. This box contains only three turns of the mill: it goes from Mills by Juliette Armanet at Windmills from the Oscar Peterson Trio, to an instrumental version by Legrand himself. So that we are finally cramped on the five discs offered here, where we limit ourselves to a tribute to today’s artists, a jazz compilation, another of film themes, Legrand humming or not (it is better not: it is the orchestrator who imposes). There are pretty incongruities (Philippe Katerine who gives The playerthe Brigittes who make the twins song), feats of strength (Miles Davis, Toots Thielemans), forgotten wonders (The swimming pool, The Go-Between, The Thomas Crown Affair). And yet, we come out short of experience. Legrand, in terms of wind turbines, it’s infinitely bigger.
