Momentum 1786, Leif Ove Andsnes, Mahler Chamber Orchestra

This album follows a Momentum 1785 of the same water, published in 2021. The idea is to juxtapose two concertos from Mozart’s maturity with works from the same period. Here, the Concertos nbone 23 and 24 are surrounded by the concert air Ch’io mi scordi di te? No temer, amato benefrom Quartet with piano noh 2, K.493from Rondo for piano, K. 485 and Trio with piano, K. 502. Not only is the idea in itself excellent, but as in the first album, listening immediately reveals that Leif Ove Andsnes has thought deeply about the phrasing and balance. The orchestra is not a simple setting for its piano playing, but a real actor, a word chosen voluntarily to illustrate the theatrical and very lively dimension of the subject. Added to this is a remarkable vocal choice, Christiane Karg corresponding perfectly to the format required by the famous aria K.505. Another advantage: bringing music lovers, inclined to consider orchestral music, to finally pay attention to jewels like the Quartet K.493. Superb and useful publication.
