The very surprising reaction of Jean-Jacques Goldman to the release of an album paying homage to him

You have to go back to 2001 to find traces of Jean-Jacques Goldman’s last album. The opus is called Songs for the feet and was released in 2001 for a total of over one million records sold. Although long awaited, no other album by the artist has seen the light of day. And yet, Friday January 21, a tribute album dedicated to the favorite personality of the French according to the Ifop / JDD ranking was released in stores. The Goldman Legacy is made up of covers of the 70-year-old man’s repertoire.

At the head of this project, Erick Benzi, composer, producer and friend of the interpreter of I walk alone. For this record, he notably called on the Chœur gospel de Paris, Lilian Renaud, Michael Jones, and even Marina Kaye. “Besides the fans, he’s the only person I didn’t want to disappoint. I called him straight away.“, he explained to the Parisian. And when he told JJG about this company, the latter launched to him: “I don’t care. Do what you want. I’m sure it will be fine”. Once the album was finished, the main interested party expressed his satisfaction. “It’s great, you respected the emotion, you found interpreters who understand what they sing”.

Questioned by the Journal du Dimanche, Jean-Jacques Goldman insisted on explaining that he was in no way involved in this disc.

“The cover albums are the visions of their authors. I have nothing to do with them. Regarding all the books, shows, records, broadcasts, none are on my initiative and I have not participated in any. If that happened, I would make that clear, of course.”

This Goldman legacy will go all over France, including a visit to the Olympia on September 25, then a tour of the Zéniths in the spring of 2023.
