“It was fireworks and after, it was death, said a witness of the scene to the members of the jury. We couldn’t hear anything. […] I have never seen anything like it. He’s just killed someone and he’s walking away. »
Dominico Scarfo, 49, is accused of the murder of Lorenzo Giordano and Rocco Sollecito, killed in March and May 2016 in settling scores, and of having planned these assassinations with accomplices.
According to the prosecution, Scarfo’s arrest would not have been possible without the collaboration of another hitman who unpacked his bag at the Sûreté du Québec.
The civilian undercover agent wore recording devices to obtain “confessions”.
“This evidence is the most important and the one that has the most impact, because it comes from the accused himself,” argued Marie-Christine Godbout, of the Crown.
She adds that the accused will be heard to say that he was paid $17,500 for the murder of Giordano, but that he was to receive more money.
Five bullets to the head
The latter was killed with five bullets to the head and neck by Scarfo, in Laval, on 1er March 2016, in front of his horrified spouse. The accused then allegedly fled in a car with an accomplice.
In the case of Sollecito, Scarfo would have been driving a vehicle in front of that of his victim and would have stopped for a long time at a mandatory stop, which would have allowed an individual in a bus shelter to shoot him down, in Laval, on 27 May 2016.
For this murder, Scarfo received $5,000 for his participation, according to the records, where he would confirm that he is a hitman for the Italian Mafia.
According to the Crown, the two men were murdered due to a war between Mafia clans. The murders were allegedly ordered by the now deceased Salvatore Scoppa.
The trial, which is expected to last three months, continues on Wednesday.
