Interventions by disinfection specialists against bedbugs increased between summer 2022 and summer 2023. According to figures communicated to franceinfo on Wednesday by the Disinfection, Disinfestation and Pest Control Union Chamber (CS3D), we see 65% more disinfection interventions over the period June, July, August 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the 3D Trade Union Chamber, these interventions have been constantly increasing over the last three years. Throughout 2020, 889,000 interventions were recorded. There were 977,900 in 2021 and 1,095,000 in 2022.

This increase in the number of interventions is clearly linked to the increase in the number of bedbugs and infested areas. Before this summer, professionals knew that the return to school would be complex. For several years, they have been warning about the increase in the phenomenon.

Interventions on entire buildings

Reports of the presence of bedbugs, particularly on social networks, have increased in recent weeks, particularly in Parisian cinemas and transport, even if these infestations are not all clearly proven. These bugs are now invading public debate, a “interministerial meeting” is scheduled for Friday “quickly provide answers to the French”announcedhe government spokesperson.

The Chambre syndicale specifies that, more and more often, the interventions are important because they can involve entire buildings, from the habitat to the structure. The bug is no longer unknown today and the reflexes of individuals are perhaps sharper today than they were, professionals believe.

Please note that the figures communicated by the CS3D count the number of interventions and are therefore non-exhaustive. They therefore do not represent all households infested by bedbugs.
