Four Bordeaux women are in the selection from Corinne Deacon: Mylene Chavas, Eve Perisset, Charlotte Bilbault and Ella Pallis. A match to follow live on W9 this evening at 8:45 p.m. with comments from Laura Georges and Bordeaux journalist Xavier Domergue, guest of 100% Girondins (program to listen to here).
The matches of the French women’s team on W9 have shown very good audience levels with often nearly a million viewers, women’s football comes out of a certain anonymity?
Women’s football has long been considered a niche. Me, I find that even before the 2019 World Cup, things had already evolved a lot. And today, I am very happy to see the audiences. But beyond all that, to see the homogeneity of the championship which is more and more interesting to follow. With a qualifying third place for the Champions League, which also opens up other European horizons.
Was women’s football obvious to you?
I have always been attracted to women’s football because years ago, when I worked at beIN Sports, I had the opportunity to cover the Champion’s League, with Paris-Saint-Germain or Olympique Lyonnais. So I have always been interested in this football which I find very interesting to follow in terms of technique, in terms of physical quality too.
You keep an eye on Patrice Lair’s team in Bordeaux ?
Today, I am very happy to see the women of the Girondins de Bordeaux evolve so well, even if this season is more complicated than last season. There was this disappointment of not qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League because they were really close. They almost created the feat against Wolsfburg, which is today in the semi-finals of the Champions League. I think digesting it all was hard
For these two qualifying matches against Wales and Slovenia, there are four Bordeaux players in the France team, a good sign for FCGB Women ?
For several months now, for several gatherings, Corinne Deacon has chosen to take a lot of Bordelaises. And for me, it’s a logical reward given the last season achieved by the Girondines who really had an exceptional season. To exchange with a lot of players during the last matches, and in particular with Charlotte Bilbault, who plays a very important role in this selection, they are happy to meet several Bordeaux players in this France group which has long been reserved in quotation marks for Parisiennes and Lyonnaises. And today, we realize that there are more and more players from other Paris FC teams in particular, which is also having a great season with Montpellier. There are a lot of clubs represented, so I think that is above all a very, very good sign for the positive development of women’s football.
Wales-France it’s evening at 8:45 p.m. on W9 with Laura Georges and Xavier Domergue from Bordeaux.
