An 18-month suspended prison sentence was requested against Alexandre Benalla, during his appeal trial for the violence of May 1, 2018. The Advocate General also requests a ban on carrying weapons for 10 years as well a ban on public service for five years (qualified here as an “optional sentence”).
Sentenced to one year in prison at first instance
At first instance, in September 2021, the former Elysée official was sentenced to three years in prison, including a firm under an electronic bracelet, a five-year ban on holding public employment and a ban on wearing weapon for 10 years.
In addition, a 12-month suspended prison sentence and a ban on carrying a weapon for 15 years were requested against his friend Vincent Crase, a reservist in the gendarmerie at the time of the events. Together, they are suspected of having brutalized five people by trying to arrest them on the sidelines of the demonstration on May 1, 2018 in Paris, when they only attended as “observers”.
