(New York) The New York Yankees added depth behind the plate by acquiring receiver Jose Trevino in a trade with the Texas Rangers on Saturday.

In return, Rangers received right-hander Albert Abreu and left-hander Robert Ahlstrom.
The 29-year-old Trevino batted .239 with five home runs and 30 RBIs in 81 games for the Rangers last season.
In four major league seasons, Trevino appeared in 156 games, batting .245 with nine home runs and 55 RBIs. Since the start of the preseason games, he has hit four in 16 at bats.
The Yankees sent their number-one receiver for the past few seasons, Gary Sánchez, to the Minnesota Twins last month in return for third baseman Josh Donaldson. They also landed catcher Ben Rortvedt, who made his MLB debut last season.
Kyle Higashioka, who had 58 starts behind the plate with the Yankees last year, has been the number one contender since the start of training camp. He hit seven home runs, including two on Saturday against the Braves.
On the Rangers side, we will welcome Abreu, 26, who compiled a 2-0 record with a saved victory and a 5.15 earned run average in 28 games with the Yankees last season. He also struck out 35 batters in 36 2/3 innings.
As for Ahlstrom, he’s a 22-year-old prospect who didn’t pitch in professional baseball last season. He was drafted in the seventh round by the Yankees in 2021.
