Xi Jinping towards a third term

Xi Jinping is about to go down in Chinese history. After a change in the constitution, the all-powerful Chinese leader does not seem ready to let go of power anytime soon. the Communist Party will meet for two days, in conclave, to decide on the renewal of the management team. However, the outcome of this meeting leaves no room for doubt and Xi Jinping should be reappointed. Changes made by the Chinese president since taking office have only increased his authority.

The president, in office since March 2013, has taken several steps to give him greater powers. Thus, in March 2018, Xi Jinping had the constitution changed to abolish the two-term presidential limit. In theory, he can therefore be president for life. With the increase of his powers, the Chinese leader has also increased repression. Any criticism that may be made of his regime is now “unconstitutional”. Despite his powerful image, Xi Jinping faces difficulties, in particular by its position as the main ally of Vladimir Putin. Economically too, China is in the throes of a real estate crisis and its growth is running out of steam. The policy against the Covid is also contested.
