X (formerly Twitter) now officially authorizes the publication of pornographic and erotic content

The social network

“We believe that users should be able to create, distribute and view sexual content as long as it is produced and distributed in a consensual manner,” indicates the network on the page entitled “adult content” of its updated regulations.

X nevertheless ensures “to prevent this content from being visible to children or adult users who do not wish to be exposed to it”.

The social network had, until now, never formally banned erotic or pornographic videos or photos on its site since its creation, but had not officially authorized them either.

In 2019, he touched on the subject by announcing the ban, effective 1er January 2020, of images including “violent sexual conduct”.

Photos or videos “featuring adult nudity or sexual acts of a pornographic nature or capable of arousing sexual arousal” are now clearly authorized, according to the X site.

This point of regulation also applies to content generated by artificial intelligence, animation and hentai, a Japanese genre of manga and hypersexualized cartoons.

The social network nevertheless says it prohibits content promoting “exploitation [sexuelle]attacks on minors and obscene behavior.”

Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat have put in place heavy restrictions on erotic or pornographic content.

Since his takeover, in 2022, of Twitter, now X, Elon Musk has sought to make the social network a space for free expression, even if it means reducing content moderation.

Under his control, X lifted the suspensions imposed on several ultraconservative figures, notably Donald Trump.

Several organizations, including the Center Against Online Hate (CCDH), have accused the platform of allowing hateful messages or images to pass through.
