Worst audience ever, furious viewers, absent stars… Why are the “NRJ Music Awards” no longer convincing?

What’s happening at the NRJ Music Awards? The ceremonies follow one another and are similar… and above all, they no longer bring people together. This Friday, November 10, 2023, the 25th anniversary ceremony achieved its worst historical audience score, only bringing together 3.2 million viewers on its first part. If the target scores remain efficient, with 36% on housewives and 46% on 15-24 year olds, they nevertheless remain in significant decline, year after year. And the criticism continues to pour out on social networks, viewers overwhelming the production with reproaches, on diverse and varied subjects.

“It’s time to stop the massacre once and for all!!! Ceremony of a nullity, conspicuous by the absence of international stars!” reproached one of them, even arguing that only stars “made in TF1” win the trophies. Indeed, last night, many artists from The Voiceboth the talents and the coaches, won prizes: Louane, Bigflo and Oli, Slimane… “Yesterday was The Voice Awards”an Internet user quips on this subject.

Other Internet users took issue with Nikos Aliagas’ animation, which they considered too smooth, even calling for the return of Anthony Kavanaghwho oversaw the first six ceremonies, from 2000 to 2006: “Give us back Anthony Kavanagh and a ceremony worthy of the name. Nikos is soporific. The ceremony was cheaper than Song of the yearthat is to say”. In view of the audiences, many viewers noticed the drop in interest from fans of the format, and called TF1 and NRJ to stop the bleeding : “3.2 million I see that as a failure, it’s in free fall over the years… We need to innovate… Do something else” underlines a viewer.

A final edition in 2024?

Audiences at the NRJ Music Awards are falling year after year. In 2003, the ceremony achieved its best historical score by bringing together 7.8 million viewers. Until 2013, the ceremonies all brought together more than 6 million fans. Audiences began to decline in 2016, falling below the 5 million fan mark, but nevertheless remained fairly stable. In 2020, in a context of curfew due to Covid, the ceremony regained color by bringing together 5.09 million viewers but the last three have fallen severely : 4.10 million in 2021, 3.54 million in 2022 and 3.21 million in 2023… The contract that binds TF1 and NRJ to Cannes continues until 2024, and a new ceremony will therefore be proposed next year. The last ?
