(Sydney) Rachel Homan warmed up for the playoffs by defeating Estonian Liisa Turmann 9-4 on Thursday at the World Women’s Curling Championship.
Homan opened the game with three points, then stole four points in the second end. The two quartets shook hands after the mandatory minimum of six ends.
Homan and her Ottawa team of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes improved their record to 9-0 with three games to negotiate in the preliminary phase. Estonia is now 1-8.
Once the match was out of reach for the Estonians, Rachel Brown replaced Wilkes in the Canadian quartet in the sixth end. Homan’s team will try to get a 26e victory in a row in the evening, against the New Zealander Jessica Smith.
Canada had secured its pass to the playoffs the day before by defeating Turkey 9-5. The top six teams from the preliminary phase will advance to the playoffs this weekend at Center 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
The quartets who grab the first two places in the rankings after the preliminary phase will advance directly to the semi-finals of the tournament.
