works from the Palace of Versailles exhibited at the Musée de Picardie

From Saturday September 24, 2022, and during six months, until February 26, you can admire works from the Palace of Versailles at the Musée de Picardie in Amiens. More specifically, it is six paintings and a bust that were in the room of the Sun King.

Works chosen by Louis XIV himself

King Louis XIV had personally chosen these six paintings. They moved with him, as the work on the Palace of Versailles progressed, to his last room, the most emblematic, in the center of the building.

These six paintings, stayed in the room of the sun king until its last breath, were so far visible in Versailles, but not so close since they are usually hung more than 10 meters from the ground. They are the work of Valentin de Boulogne and Giovanni Lanfranco.

A bust of King Louis XIV with a gigantic wig, made by Antoine Coysevox will also be visible at the Musée de Picardie.

An exchange with the Palace of Versailles

As for visitors to Versailles, they will be able to discover works from Picardy.

The Museum of Amiens lent one of its masterpieces : his series of exotic hunts for the exhibition Louis XV, tastes and passions of a King, which is held in Versailles from October 18th.
