Words of gratitude for my adopted country

Christmas 2023 marks 45 years since my life at the age of 13 took a turn in a direction where I had never imagined the improbable hazards that would follow and the unexpected consequences that would result.

During the journey of this new, rather chaotic existence, I had the incredible luck to receive countless hands of compassion stretched out towards me, hands full of kindness which allowed me to move forward despite the many obstacles. And mainly to fully realize myself in a land that welcomes some of the most generous stateless people on Earth, called Canada.

That year was also the beginning of the end, the end of the warmth of home, the end of the unconditional loves of my life, of everything that had made me grow up during my childhood in Vietnam.

This year therefore represents a perfect opportunity to retrace the journey of refugees like mine, without my own, in authentic words, in the book The sea of uncertainties.

It is a duty of memory, an exercise of recognition, long but thoughtful, difficult but necessary. To remember that the glow, the light at the end of the tunnel, at the bottom of the abyss, is a reality, a truth, visible, attainable, thanks to the brotherhood of humanity.

For this end of the year, I wish the people of my adopted country more adventures similar to the one recounted, but filled with pleasure and happiness. And don’t forget to take care of yourself, because health is important. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024 to everyone.
