The song contest was held on Saturday May 11 in a climate of tension regarding Israel’s participation. Swiss candidate Nemo won Eurovision and Slimane took fourth place for France.

A surprise and undisputed victory. 36 years after Celine Dion, Nemo offers the Eurovision trophy to Switzerland. “I hope this competition will keep its promises and continue to defend peace and dignity for everyone in the world”, declared the winner, holding up his prize. Nemo, a young 24-year-old artist, promises to break the mold with a performance acclaimed by the professional jury, but the competition retained its suspense until the last second. Finally Switzerland won against Croatia, who finished second.
