With its 2022 novelties, the Amnéville zoo wants to attract more than 100,000 visitors

In 2021, Amnéville Zoo (Moselle) welcomed 252,000 visitors, but the season only started in May, due to the health restrictions at the time.

For 2022, the management intends to return to a pre-Covid level of attendance, namely at least 370,000 visitors. It relies in particular on the mass return of groups and schools.

Return of the polar bears and mini-farm

To attract the public, 500,000 euros have been invested this winter to present three new features: the return of the polar bears, the expansion of the arctic wolf enclosure and an immersive visit to the mini-farm.

Regarding polar bears, Henk (16) and Akiak (7) have arrived in recent weeks from Germany and the Netherlands. It was obvious for the zoo teams to find these flagship animals. “The bear is a strong ambassador for global warming” according to Thomas Grangeat, the educational manager. For now, they are separated in two different enclosures. A commented feeding has been set up.

No more room for wolves

As for the pack of wolves, it was necessary to make room for it. Several litters increased the pack from 10 to 18 wolves. The zoo teams have therefore logically enlarged their living space. “We had to find a space adapted to the size of the pack. It is now split. This is obviously of interest to them, to us and to the public.”

The zoo has increased its entry price by one euro, rising to €34 for an adult, and €29 the price of a child ticket. On the other hand, now access to the hologram show is included in the admission ticket.
