Prime Minister François Legault likes to claim the massive support of the voters of Quebec to justify his insane project for a third link between Quebec and Lévis. He did so again after the recent municipal elections. However, the results of these elections in Quebec should encourage him to stop talking nonsense about it. Indeed, the only one of the five candidates for mayor who unreservedly supported the construction of a third link, in this case Jean-François Gosselin, won less than 25% of the vote. This result is all the more revealing of the lukewarmness of the electorate in relation to this third link project as Jean-François Gosselin had made it the central element of his electoral program. Under these conditions, Prime Minister Legault has no other choice but to consult the population of the Quebec City region by referendum and to commit to only carrying out this project if he obtains a double majority, that is, that is to say on the South Shore and on the North Shore. Such a popular consultation is necessary before throwing in the water perhaps up to 10 billion dollars of our taxes.
