“He missed about thirty deputies out of 577, and the presidential majority is indeed relative”. This excerpt from Emmanuel Macron’s speech made more than one jump, Wednesday evening, June 22. The presidential majority is relative: no one had waited for the president to make the observation, after the second round of the legislative elections. But why is he talking about a “thirty deputies” missing when 44 are missing to reach an absolute majority, i.e. 289 seats?

It is a way of saying that the majority has already succeeded in poaching some: in the presidential entourage, it is ensured that 251 deputies claim to belong to the presidential majority. 251 is six more than the 245 deputies Together! (the Modem, Horizons and Renaissance alliance, ex-LREM) of the final results. If we do the math, there are no longer 44 seats missing to reach an absolute majority, but 38. And if 38, that’s “thirty” and not about forty, it is therefore that the President of the Republic is forcing the line and intends to display a form of optimism, but we cannot say either that he is in denial of reality.
Who are these six deputies? Unable to get list. But we quote for example the deputy of Damien Abad, the former president of the LR group, who presented himself as various right after having broken with his political family and won a post of minister. Patrick Liebus will join the ranks of the majority.
A majority which can also count with dissidents finally rehabilitated and welcomed with open arms into the bosom of the macronists: the emblematic case is Stéphane Vojetta, the walker who presented himself against Manuel Valls, in the 5th constituency of the French of the foreigner. The former Prime Minister of François Hollande had been invested by Ensemble!, but was beaten in the first round. Emmanuel Macron will be able to count on the voice of this ex-dissident.
We imagine that the negotiations continue. It’s no secret that phones get hot. Elisabeth Borne herself makes phone calls. Olivier Véran, the Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, ex-socialist, too. “It is still too early to give a precise mapping of the groups”, indicates a parliamentary source who confirms that the “tectonic plates” are still moving.
The scene will not be frozen until the beginning of next week. The groups have until Tuesday 6 p.m. to submit the list of their members to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the National Assembly. The lists will be published on the Palais-Bourbon website overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. And they will be published on Wednesday at Official newspaper.
