Who are the main candidates who have appealed to the Constitutional Council?

Marie-Caroline Le Pen, Raquel Garrido and Meyer Habib are among the candidates who have contacted the institution to contest the result of the legislative elections in the constituency in which they stood.

Since the second round of early legislative elections, several former candidates have brought cases before the Constitutional Council to contest their defeat or attempt to prove the ineligibility of the person who was elected. In total, the institution has recorded 61 cases concerning the 2024 legislative elections (figure as of Wednesday, July 17). Here is a non-exhaustive list:

Marie-Caroline Le Pen (4th constituency of Sarthe)

The National Rally candidate has appealed to the Constitutional Council to contest the election of Élise Leboucher, elected with 50.23% of the votes in the 4th constituency of Sarthe.

Raquel Garrido (5th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis)

The Miscellaneous Left candidate not nominated by La France Insoumise has appealed to the Constitutional Council to contest the election of Aly Diouara (LFI), elected with 60.55% of the votes in the 5th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Sabrina Ali Benali (7th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis)

The La France Insoumise candidate has appealed to the Constitutional Council to contest the election of Alexis Corbière, elected with 57.16% of the votes in the 7th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Céline Verzeletti (15th district of Paris)

The La France Insoumise candidate has appealed to the Constitutional Council to contest the election of Danielle Simonnet (Miscellaneous Left, not invested by LFI), elected with 74.19% of the votes in the 15th constituency of Paris.

Meyer Habib (8th constituency of French people abroad)

The Les Républicains candidate has appealed to the Constitutional Council to contest the election of Caroline Yadan (Ensemble!), elected with 52.7% of the votes in the 8th constituency of French people abroad (Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Italy).

François Asselineau (11th constituency of French people abroad)

The candidate of the Popular Republican Union has seized the Constitutional Council to contest the election of Anne Genetet (Ensemble!), elected with 39.94% of the votes in the 11th constituency of French people abroad (Russia, Asia and Oceania).
