When you think Trudeau can’t do worse

Justin Trudeau will still have been below everything. It surprises you ?

These so-called “freedom convoys” initially aroused an undeniable wave of sympathy.

The “little ones” who thumb their noses at the powerful are often found sympathetic, and the covid frustration is felt by all, including those who, like me, find that the restrictions were necessary.

Disconnected

This sympathy, however, quickly faded as we discovered the organizers of this movement and their real political aims.

The majority of the population now wants this to stop.

Let’s examine how the two major federal political parties reacted to the movement.

The Conservatives, perhaps fearing the push of a Maxime Bernier on their right, first supported the truckers, causing their leader to fall.

Justin Trudeau, after procrastinating, letting everything rot, abdicating his responsibilities and finding a way to be even worse than usual, has come to have to resort to exceptional measures.

All this occurs in a context marked by collective gloom prior to the pandemic.

In the Globe and Mail yesterday, pollster Nik Nanos revealed that Canadians, when asked to rate their satisfaction with Canada on a scale of 0 to 10, give it a very ordinary 6.8 out of 10, down from at 7.2 of 2021.

Young people give the supposed best country in the world only 6.2.

Part of the explanation, Nanos argues, is that liberals and conservatives alike have turned their backs on the concerns of large segments of the population.

He is right.

On a daily basis, the majority are concerned about jobs, health, the cost of housing, the future of their children, and now, the unexpected return of inflation.

Justin Trudeau, on the other hand, seems above all obsessed with the injustices of the past, mainly towards Aboriginal people and the LGBTQ2 movement.

Good intentions notwithstanding, these issues are far removed from the day-to-day concerns of the majority.

On what concerns people most, Trudeau is absent, indifferent, hovering above them.

It’s not much better on the conservative side.

Are they interested in what concerns the average Canadian? No more.

A downright Trumpist fringe, which everywhere sees supposedly threatened freedoms, coexists with this religious right that Stephen Harper had known how to control.

In short, the PLC has moved too far to the left and the PC seems to want to embody a harder right.

The NDP, instead of posing as a realistic alternative, is the instrument of activists who fuel the woke ideology.

Moderate

However, most people are pragmatists, reasonable people, not cheap ideologues.

They want to feel that those who govern them, however imperfect, care about the same things they do.

The disconnect between the people and the Canadian political class is immense.

Therefore, should we be surprised that cynicism, vexation and extremist discourse proliferate?
