“The far right is at 40%, that is to say it does not have one foot in the door, it has one foot and four and a half toes in the door. And when it is midnight before one of the cataclysm, we rise to the height of history”alerted Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, PS mayor of Rouen, on Wednesday June 12 on franceinfo, while discussions for the legislative elections between left-wing forces within the Popular Front led to an agreement on the distribution of constituencies.
“The responsibility, not only of socialists, ecologists, of all left-wing forces, but also of all humanists and progressives, is to rise to the height of this moment to avoid this absolute catastrophe”insists Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol.
The mayor of Rouen denounces the comments of Emmanuel Macron who castigated the “battle of values” against the “extreme”. “I hear a little music kept up by the President of the Republic who would like us to believe that there is an equivalence between the extreme right and the Popular Front”points out Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol. “You should know that for the legislative elections, if you vote for the extreme right, you will have a racist Minister of the Interior. If you vote for the extreme right, you will have a climate-skeptical Minister of Ecology, a minister of sexist education and you will not have a minister for women’s rights. You will have a minister against women’s rights.” “It’s not a game, it’s not an argument, it’s the reality our country finds itself in today”asserts the elected socialist.
Faced with the National Rally, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol specifies that the Socialist Party, “we can criticize him a lot. But when we had to choose between hatred and a candidate of the Republic, and even when his name was Emmanuel Macron, the Socialist Party was always there”. He would like the government “commit now” to position yourself when there will be a second round of legislative elections “Popular Front candidates facing the far right”. “Can Mr. Attal say publicly that he is committed now to calling for people to vote for these Popular Front candidates to block the far right, as we are doing?”asks Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol. “That would be republican. That would serve the Republic.”
