When the vineyard and the Apprentis d’Auteuil Foundation give a second chance to young Girondins

On the occasion of the preview presentation of the documentary ” The living winegrowers ” of Julien Touzaint at The City of Wine September 20 and October 6 on France 3 New Aquitaine, we explain to you this unique integration scheme which is a joint initiative of Girondin winegrowers and the Apprentis d’Auteuil foundation. It is thanks to the will of winegrowers like Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier from Anthonic Castle in Moulis-en-Médoc, to the expertise of Caroline Boidron of the Apprentis d’Auteuil Foundation that the system is structured to allow young people, if not to discover a vocation, at least to regain confidence and acquire professional skills.

“A story that does good”

“En 2018, we proposed to the Fondation des Apprentis d’Auteuil to create training in vine trades with an agro-ecological focus, for the integration of young people far from the job market. The meeting with the Apprentis d’Auteuil and then the reactions of the many people involved very quickly led to the concrete creation of the “Vignerons du vivant” project. Today he starts his 5th promotion in Médoc and the 2nd in St Emilion.” Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier

The training of “Vignerons du Vivant” is based on 5 inseparable ideas

Answer the need for labor in the vineyard while integrating young people far from employment.

A short training (11 months), 100% in the field, supported by a training center (Mfr Saint Yzans for the Médoc) with a technical trainer who monitors the young people on a daily basis.

Give these young people access to the best specialists in agroecology: Marc-Andre Selosse (mycorrhizae), Marceau Bourdarias (soft waist), Konrad Schreiber (agroecology), Alain Canet and Herve Coves (agroforestry)

Social support personal and reinforced of each young person via the Apprentices from Auteuil

A network of castles participants who each welcome a young person in particular within the framework of the work-study program and, importantly, who make sure to appoint one of their employees as the young person’s “tutor”

“The living winegrowers” the documentary

For 16 months, director Julien Touzaint (Production kestu) to follow these young people with accuracy and sensitivity. “Between pruning, plowing and harvesting, these young people learn the basics of a profession from the angle of agro-ecology in order to be prepared to ” tomorrow’s agriculture, not yesterday’s. The fifteen chosen candidates meet regularly with trainers who complete their training in the field. In difficulty or wandering, these young people embark on a new adventure through current ecological values. In the vineyards, but also during class periods and in their daily lives, we will follow four young people throughout their apprenticeship to become winegrowers”

The 52-minute documentary, which followed 4 young people over a year in the Médoc, is previewed next Tuesday at La Cité du Vin and will be broadcast on October 6 at 10:50 p.m. on France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine
