Light pollution affects up to 85% of France, according to the National Biodiversity Observatory. It corresponds to artificial light which takes precedence over natural light.

Artificial lighting is a disruptive element for flora and fauna. We are talking about light pollution. In France, 85% of the metropolitan territory is exposed to light pollution at a high level, according to the National Biodiversity Observatory. In question, in particular, public lighting, the lights of the dwellings or the signage. If decrees regulate the use of exterior lighting in France, they are struggling to be applied.

The National Biodiversity Observatory warns about the consequences of this situation: “Light pollution is a major threat to many animal and plant species that need the day / night alternation”. In addition, in animals, the observatory notes a disruption of biological rhythms, a modification of behavior and disturbed movements. With this light pollution, it is the dark night that would be on the way to extinction.
