The United Nations will today release a first expert report on human rights violations in Sudan, which has been ravaged since April 2023 by a war between the army and the independent military group Rapid Support Forces, which are fighting for control of the country.
On August 14, the United States launched ceasefire talks in Switzerland, but the Sudanese army, disagreeing on the format of the discussions, withdrew from the negotiating table. Without a resolution, the conflict is pushing the population to the brink of famine.
