The Common Front for Arts and Letters, which brings together 17 organizations and associations from the cultural sector (including the Union of Artists and the Quebec Crafts Council), is organizing a press conference where it will present its analysis of repercussions of the reduction in funding granted to cultural work.
For 2024-2025, Quebec allocates only $160.46 million to the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ). This is a drop in funding for the country’s largest provincial arts council compared to the previous year, which comes at a time of explosion in creative costs. The Common Front will also take advantage of the event to make its expectations known regarding the Quebec government’s next budget.
Tuesday, Duty reported the story of two theater creators who, after encountering a refusal from the CALQ a year ago, chose to postpone the performances of their show for a year.
