Episode I-The Phantom Menace

Why ?

This is the film where we see Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), still a young padawan with his master, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson). The duo will take young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) under their wing, believing he is the one who will restore balance to the Force. Obi-Wan Kenobi will ultimately become Anakin’s master.

Episode II-Attack of the Clones

Why ?

In this episode, we find Anakin Skywalker (now played by Hayden Christensen) and Obi-Wan Kenobi, 10 years after the events of The Phantom Menace. Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) is now a Senator of the Republic. Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) plays the spoilsport, while he is at the head of the separatists. It is learned that a clone army for the Republic has been secretly ordered from the rulers of the planet Kamino. Note that the strings are pulled by the mysterious Darth Sidious.

The Clone Warsthe film

Why ?

The animated film, which premiered in July 2008, precedes the release of the series by three months. It shows the commanded clone army led by Jedi masters. A good preamble, where we meet for the first time Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s padawan.

The Clone Warsseries

Why ?

This animated series features the evolving relationship between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, in addition to delving into character roles that will impact other series in the Star Wars universe, including Ahsoka Tano and the clones of the 99 delegation, Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, Tech and Crosshair, seen in The Bad Batch.

It is possible to listen to the series between episodes II and III. If you really want to give it a try, episode 9 of the seventh and final season of the series should be watched before Revenge of the Sith.

Episode III-Revenge of the Sith

Why ?

This is the chapter in which everything changes, where we discover who is hiding behind Darth Sidious, where the fates of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker are sealed. It’s the beginning of the empire… and the hunt for the Jedi.

The Bad Batch

Why ?

The Bad Batch proposes to follow the adventures of Hunter, Echo, Wrecker, Tech and Crosshair, all members of the 99 delegation, when the execution of Order 66 by Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious is proclaimed. We thus follow their adventures which will lead them, among other things, to meeting Omega, a clone encountered on Kamino, as well as Fennec Shand, the bounty hunter who can be seen in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The series sheds light on “after Order 66”, which summoned the clones to eliminate the Jedi.

Star Wars: Rebels

Why ?

Characters featured in Obi-Wan Kenobinotably the Inquisitor (who will be played by Rupert Friend), have a role in Rebels. The anime series technically takes place after the period covered by Obi-Wan Kenobibut it is an excellent transition to RogueOne and At New Hope, episode IV where we see an aging Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Alec Guiness.
