On the 50th day of war, the truce that began on Friday between Israel and Hamas experienced significant upheavals on Saturday, November 25. After a first release of hostages on Friday in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the agreement which provides for the release of 50 hostages held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for 150 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons had a difficult day, more than a months and a half after the bloody attacks of October 7. Franceinfo summarizes what you need to remember from this day on the war front.

Releases of hostages and prisoners delayed

The four-day, renewable humanitarian truce, which came into force Friday morning after an agreement between Israel and Hamas, was put in difficulty on Saturday. Hamas’ military wing announced it was delaying handing over a new group of hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) until Israel “respect the agreement”. The Ezzedine al-Qassam brigades notably demanded “the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into the north of the Gaza Strip” and respect for “selection criteria” for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

After a period of uncertainty, Hamas and Qatar finally announced that the releases would take place in the evening. Thirteen Israeli hostages and seven other foreigners held in the Gaza Strip will be released on Saturday evening against 39 Palestinian prisoners, Qatar said. At the same time, the Palestinian Islamist movement announced that it would release the Israeli hostages before midnight.

Humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza

New trucks loaded with aid entered the south of the Gaza Strip on Saturday, besieged since October 7 by the Israeli army, via the Rafah border crossing, according to AFP images. A total of 200 aid trucks entered on Friday, according to the Israeli Defense Ministry’s department responsible for civil affairs in Gaza. It’s about “largest humanitarian convoy” in seven weeks of war, underlined Ocha.

An Israeli army spokesperson says that “200 aid trucks are expected” once again on Saturday in the Gaza Strip. Trucks must notably transport “food”of “the water”, “medical equipment” And “personal hygiene products”explains a spokesperson on. Eight trucks, four fuel tankers and four cooking gas trucks, already entered the territory on Saturday morning, according to the IDF.

Gazans try to reach the north

According to the United Nations agency responsible for humanitarian coordination (Ocha), several thousand Gazans have tried since the start of the truce to return to the north of the Gaza Strip, despite warnings from the Israeli army, who had ordered at the start of the ground offensive all civilians to leave this sector, considered a combat zone.

The Israeli army opened fire and fired tear gas grenades on Friday against some of these displaced people, according to OCHA, which reported one dead and dozens injured. According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, seven of these displaced people were injured by the Israeli army on Saturday.

Israeli ship attacked in Indian Ocean

A ship belonging to an Israeli businessman was lightly damaged Friday in a suspected Iranian attack in the Indian Ocean, a US military official said. This attack comes after threats from Yemeni Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, against Israeli ships and those belonging to Israel’s allies sailing in the Red Sea.
