What to do this weekend? | Le Devoir

Follow the parades and Destroismaisons

The Festival des arts de ruelle concludes at the end of the week with three themed parades that will liven up corners of central neighborhoods and that are sure to please young and old alike. On Friday evening, pirates will invade Sansregret Alley in Hochelaga, fantastical creatures will be invited to Rosemont on Saturday afternoon, and you can get out your chic clothes for a grand ball on stilts on Sunday afternoon, in the “mother” alley of the festival, near Saint-Ambroise elementary school in Rosemont. In the evening, Gabrielle Destroismaisons promises to have nostalgics singing her pop repertoire.

Cinema of disappearances

Two very different films hitting theaters Friday explore the theme of disappearance. In the documentary Amazonia, meeting the guardians of the forest, by Santiago Bertolino, we follow the Quebec ethnogeographer and ecologist Marie-Josée Béliveau who goes up the course of the Amazon River to meet the indigenous communities who are victims of the massive destruction of their territory and draws up a distressing report of the disappearance of the “lung of the planet”. The drama Close your eyesby Spanish filmmaker Victor Erice, presented at Cannes in 2023, tells the story of how a retired director delves into his memories linked to the disappearance of an actor and close friend during a joint shoot.

More festivals!

The summer of outdoor festivals is not over yet. Beer lovers, with or without alcohol, may find what they are looking for at the Repentigny Oktoberfest, in the enchanting setting of Parc de l’Île-Lebel. You can combine the discovery of intoxicating or non-intoxicating beverages with musical discoveries with performances by Oui Merci and Fuso, or stay on familiar ground with Dumas and a tribute to the Cowboys Fringants. A little further down the river, at Parc Jean-Drapeau, the very first edition of Palomosa will be held on Friday and Saturday, a festival with a varied program, featuring electro, pop, punk and tuttiThe party continues late, at the SAT.

Arboreal Theatre

This is a unique theatrical invitation to which the company La ruée outre-mer invites us. In its play Sylvan relationshippresented in Montreal parks this weekend (at Walter-Stewart Park on Saturday and at Saint-Gabriel Park on Sunday), author and actor Laury Huard tells the story of a tree (which is a character in its own right) and its collective planting. This exploration of our relationship with the forest continues after the performances through workshops combining the arts and an introduction to arboricultural practices (seeds, cuttings, clearing).
