“Hi, it’s Leo, what does it say?”

This Monday, July 8, the New Popular Front begins a week during which it will have to present “a candidacy” for the post of Prime Minister, according to the First Secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure. The union of the left finally came out on top in the legislative elections on Sunday, July 7. The NFP obtained at least 178 deputies, against 150 for the former presidential majority and 143 for the RN.

With none of the three blocs winning an absolute majority, it will be very complicated for the next prime minister to govern. Jean-Luc Mélenchon believes that President Emmanuel Macron “has a duty to call on the New Popular Front to govern,” but a new alliance with other centrists and right-wing MPs could outnumber the total number of left-wing MPs.

The Republican Front thus worked once again on Sunday to block the far right. Enough to delight the players of the French football team who had spoken out against it. Jules Koundé, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Ibrahima Konaté and Ousmane Dembélé notably expressed their relief on social networks.
