The deputies of the National Assembly adopted the deconjugalization of the disabled adult allowance (AAH), Thursday, July 21. It will take effect in the fall of 2023. Journalist Nicolas Carvalho details the changes that will take place.
The deconjugalization of the disabled adult allowance (AAH) was adopted by the National Assembly on Thursday, July 21. The AAH, created in 1975, is intended to compensate for the inability to work for people with disabilities. Nicolas Carvalho recalls that she “currently concerns 1.2 million beneficiaries in France” and “is paid according to medical and social criteria for a maximum monthly amount of 904 euros“.”Until now, this amount was calculated according to the tax shares of the household and not of the disabled person alone. People in couples therefore depended on their spouse“, explains the journalist.
On October 1, 2023, deconjugalization will take effect. Thereby, “160,000 people will see their allowance increase by an average of 300 euros per month“.”On the other hand, 45,000 people could be harmed: those who work and whose spouse does not receive any incomesays Nicolas Carvalho. A transitional arrangement has been put in place. If they wish, these people can keep the current formula.“
