Tuesday, January 18, the 13 Hours tells you about the purchasing power of retirees. To understand everything and know everything about the proposals of the presidential candidates, the journalist Guillaume Daret details their proposals.

This is a topic of concern to retirees. Will their purchasing power be preserved? There are a lot of expectations in this area. Today, an average pension amounts to around 1,393 euros net in France. Nevertheless, there are big disparities. “Women earn 40% less than men”, says William Daret. According to the numbers, “retirement pensions increased by 4.5% between 2014 and 2019”, but that does not mean that retirees have more purchasing power because the cost of living has also increased.

On the side of presidential candidates, there is no shortage of proposals to preserve the purchasing power of seniors. “Valérie Pécresse, for example, wants in 2030, there will not be a retirement below the minimum wage for a full career. (…) Jean-Luc Mélenchon announces a minimum retirement of 1,400 euros net”, explains the journalist. And this is nothing new. All the former presidents also spoke to seniors to reassure them about their purchasing power, because they are the ones who vote the most. “To go to the Élysée, you have to convince retirees”, concludes William Daret.
