François Fillon, the absolute record

François Fillon holds an absolute record for the number of positions held in governments over the last 30 years, with six different portfolios in his charge. He also holds the record for longevity in ministerial positions. First Minister of Technologies and Information and some Position in 1995, he was then Minister Delegate for the Post Office. Minister of Social Affairs, Labor and Solidarity, then Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research. Prime Minister from 2007 to 2012 and Minister of Ecology, Transport and Housing from February to May 2012 in his own government. Total accumulation: ten years and four months. Note that before 1995, he was also Minister of Higher Education And of Research for more than two years under the Balladur government.

François Baroin, first appointed in 1995, was entrusted with five different portfolios. First a spokesperson, he returned ten years later as Minister of Overseas Territories in 2005. He was then, in turn, Minister of the Interior and Regional Planning, Minister of the Budget, new spokesperson, then Minister of the Economy and Finance between 2011 and 2012. Total cumulative experience: four years and eleven months.

Roselyne Bachelot, longest-serving woman

Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development from 2002, then Minister of Health and Sports from 2007 to 2010, was then Minister of Solidarity then Minister of Culture. Total accumulation: eight years and nine months.

Ségolène Royal is also one of the most represented personalities. Minister for School Education in 1997, she was Minister for Families, Children and People with Disabilities from 2000, then Minister for the Environment from 2014 to 2017 in the Vals and Cazeneuve governments. Total accumulation: eight years and 17 days. Ségolène Royal was also Minister of the Environment under the Bérégovoy government between 1992 and 1993.

Alain Juppé multiplied his portfolios between 1995 and 2012 but the cumulative time he has been in government for 30 years is not significant. Prime Minister from 1995 to 1997, he was then Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Planning in 2007 in the first Fillon government, then Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs in 2010 and finally Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Unions in 2011, in the third Fillon government. Total accumulation: three years, seven months and one day. Alain Juppé who held a ministerial position in 1986, since he was government spokesperson and minister responsible for the budget under the second Chirac government.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, two portfolios and more than 10 years

Jean-Yves Le Drian has only held two portfolios over the last thirty years but is approaching the longevity record of François Fillon. Minister of Defense for five years, he was then Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs from 2017 to 2022. Total accumulation: ten years and four days. Note, he was also Secretary of State for the Sea between 1991 and 1992.

Same trend for Bruno Le Maire, stationed at the Ministry of the Economy since the first Philippe government in 2017. Before that, he was Minister of Agriculture and Secretary of State for European Affairs under the Fillon 2 and 3 governments. total: nine years, eleven months and 27 days.
