Western provinces under extreme cold warning

(Edmonton) Frigid temperatures and arctic air are chilling most of the western provinces of Canada with wind chills as low as -55 ° C.

Environment Canada says all of Alberta and most of British Columbia and Saskatchewan, as well as parts of Manitoba and Ontario, are subject to extreme cold warnings.

The agency says the wind chill can vary between -40 ° C and -55 ° C in Edmonton and Calgary.

She adds that overland arctic winds and low temperatures are also forecast for much of British Columbia, with the mercury dipping to near or below -20 ° C.

Environment Canada reports that cold arctic air remains in place over western and central Saskatchewan with wind chills down to -45 ° C.

The agency says extreme cold could persist until next week.
