Whether your little monsters want to soak up the Halloween atmosphere or prefer to make discoveries at the museum or theater, here are six suggestions for activities to do with the family in October.
Halloween thrills at the Botanical Garden
Witches, ghosts and other monsters will not invade the streets of Quebec until the end of the month. No matter, Halloween is celebrated in advance at the Botanical Garden. As in the past, the Great Greenhouse is transformed into a place full of mysteries where we find fanciful characters, carnivorous plants and transformed squashes. Children aged 4 to 8 are invited to a brand new show, Don’t even be afraid!in which a cute patisson – a vegetable from the squash family – goes in search of the secret-to-scaring. Another new feature: an outdoor maze housing original creatures. Potions workshops and magic wand lessons are also part of the programming for the Halloween Thrills event.
Until October 31 at the Botanical Garden

Aboard a ghost train
The Exporail exhibition hall in Saint-Constant will look like a haunted train station. From October 11, the place, specially decorated for Halloween, will welcome gloomy characters in some of its wagons. The bravest visitors will dare to board the ghost train for a terrifying ride. Along the way, the specter of a railway worker who lived at the beginning of the 20the century will tell his life… and his tragic death. Organized in collaboration with Fantômes Montréal, this walk with a guest from beyond the grave is recommended for brave souls aged 10 and over.
The ghost train departures take place on October 19, 20, 26 and 27.

New challenges at the Science Center
New challenges await families at the Montreal Science Center. Ten years after its creation, the exhibition Fabrikwhich promotes experimentation by trial and error, is renewed. Starting October 16, young and old will be able to solve original problems inspired by Montreal and its attractions. Guided by scientific educators, participants will, for example, have to create a machine capable of stopping at the bottom of a slope as if it were going down Mount Royal or even imagine the metro of the future by flying a prototype through a tube. air. The exhibition based on the educational approach of tinkering (or hack) is aimed at people aged 8 and over.

cry wolf
The Théâtre Tortue Berlue bus will stop in front of Bain Mathieu, in Montreal, with a brand new creation on board. Designed for an audience aged 4 to 8, the puppet show Alix and the wolf astonishingly revisits the fable The child who cried wolf and leads the public to ask questions about the nature of lies and its relationship to invented stories. Like the troupe’s other projects, this production is presented in a school bus converted into a performance hall.

The Monster by Carine Paquin
As part of the 15e edition of the literary event Québec en tous lettres, the prolific children’s author Carine Paquin will read her most recent album, The secret of happy monstersin different libraries in the Old Capital. During this story time, little readers will meet Elzéar, a young monster who begins his career as a “scarer” of children. However, on his first day of work, he will shed a tear in front of a human, which is contrary to the only rule that monsters must respect: they are not allowed to cry. A discussion on emotions and some games will follow the reading. Other youth activities are also offered as part of the festival, which takes place from October 17 to 27.

Emotions in movement
Emotions are at the heart of the dance performance A cloud in my stomacha new production from the company Bouge de là. Intended for an audience aged 5 to 12, this co-creation by choreographers Audrey Bergeron and Hélène Langevin features three performers who let themselves be carried away in an emotional vortex. In a colorful setting, they discover with the spectators the sometimes surprising physical reactions caused by moods, such as spontaneous laughter or an involuntary grimace.
Saturday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m., at the Cultural and Community Center of Montréal-Nord, then on tour elsewhere in Quebec
