Weekend plans | To get in the holiday spirit

The snow cover may be gone by Christmas, but we’re not putting the holiday spirit aside just yet. Here are suggestions for activities to celebrate the month of December.

Cinema concert of the film The Grinch

What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than a film concert of the film? The Grinch ? For the first time in the country, a symphonic performance of the holiday classic will be presented on December 10 at the St-Denis Theater. It is the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Canadian conductor Adam Johnson, who will perform the musical score of the film, projected on the big screen. Tickets are on sale.

Nicolas Noel

In the company of his elves Trémaline and Pamalin, Nicolas Noël tells stories of the holiday season in his show The crystal of time. The friendly character performs on stage some songs from his album and film of the same name, released last year. The show for the whole family is on tour in Quebec throughout the month of December. Performances are notably planned in Sorel, Terrebonne and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield this weekend. An ideal outing to soak up the magic of the Holidays.

After being launched at the Grand Théâtre de Québec on November 22, the musical comedy of Cowboys Fringants, Royal Pub, created by the 7 Doigts, is at the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts until January 6. The musical and acrobatic piece tells the story of an insurance broker who ends up in the famous pub of the song of the same name following a car accident. There, he will meet several of the characters from Cowboys songs, including Loulou Lapierre, this “ordinary little mother” in Happy ordeal!, or Normand and Yves, newly unemployed in their fifties who drown their sorrows in Shooters.

The seventh petal of a monster tulip

After being presented in two other Canadian cities, the group exhibition The seventh petal of a monster tulip ends its Canadian tour at the Galerie de l’UQAM. Directed by curator Elise Anne LaPlante, the exhibition provides an interesting reflection on the representation of the female body, particularly through the history of medicine, as well as on the constraints and standards imposed. Accompanied by the poetry of Mimi Haddam, the artists Caroline Boileau, Helena Martin Franco, Daze Jefferies, Dominique Rey, Winnie Truong and the performance art quartet Ikumagialiit present, through various mediums, conceptions of hybrid, imaginary and extraordinary bodies which sometimes amount to strangeness, even monstrosity. A proposal for emancipation and self-definition which invites a change of perspectives.

Until January 20, 2024
