Weekend plans | Suggestions for warming up

We chase away the cold with these ideas for cultural outings that will keep us warm.

Manufactured culture

Several recognized object designers are exhibiting their creations until Sunday at the Design Center of the University of Quebec in Montreal. Developed by curator and professor of object design Guillaume Sasseville, the exhibition Industrial crafts offers a look at the emerging manufacturing landscape through a sample of 28 objects from as many designers. Most are prototypes, or come from small series, through which creators have often rethought everyday objects, sometimes by revaluing materials that they had at their disposal. Apparatus Atelier, Cyrc, Lambert et fils, Zoë Mowat, Atelier Zébulon Perron, barbeau desrosiers and Thom Fougere are among the designers participating in this exhibition, entry to which is free.

The hilarious parody of Star Wars in recovery

Luke Skywalker (Léonard Châteauvert) and a Stormtrooper (Corinne Darcy) in a scene from Star Wars, a musical parody.

Twice awarded at the last Fringe festival, the adaptation of Star Wars in a parody musical comedy is resumed from this Thursday by the joyful band of the Théâtre de l’Épopée. “The 100% Quebec intergalactic adventure” is based on episodes 4, 5 and 6 of the famous George Lucas saga, enhanced here by choreography and songs. Here, the tone is more than relaxed, the manner borders on the absurd and what replaces “force” is what constitutes the essence of theater: the voluntary credulity of the spectators. Star Wars is here completely desecrated… for our greatest pleasure. And if you’ve always dreamed of hearing Darth Vader sing Céline, well, now’s your chance!

Various dates between now and November 23 at the Théâtre de la Comédie de Montréal

Dany Boudreault burns the boards in the room Homicide.

The Prospero Theater is currently hosting one of the most chilling productions we have ever seen. Written by Pascal Brullemans and directed by Nini Bélanger, the play Homicide is inspired by the infamous Luka Rocco Magnotta affair. It is a question here of a gratuitous murder, of an outrage against a corpse, but above all of the assassin’s visceral need to access a form of celebrity. In the lead role, Dany Boudreault burns the boards. A powerful and frightening work that will haunt us for a long time.

Until November 11.
