Wednesday in the NHL | The Golden Knights will not make the playoffs

Tyler Johnson flashed the red light in the seventh round of the shootout and the Chicago Blackhawks ended the Vegas Golden Knights’ hopes of advancing to the playoffs with a 4-3 win on Wednesday.

Johnson scored with a wrist shot seconds before the Dallas Stars, who needed a point to eliminate the Golden Knights, went to overtime in their game.

The Golden Knights had never missed the playoffs since entering the NHL in 2017-18. They had made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in the first season.

Johnson was the only one of 14 shooters to score. Taylor Raddysh hit the target twice for the Blackhawks while Caleb Jones also found the back of the net.

Kevin Lankinen stopped 37 shots for the Blackhawks, who have won their last two games.

Michael Amadio, Alec Martinez and Max Pacioretty scored for the Golden Knights. Chandler Stephenson had three assists.

Logan Thompson also stopped 37 shots.

Jets blank Flyers 4-0

Eric Comrie made 34 saves and recorded his first NHL career shutout when the Winnipeg Jets blanked the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Edmontonian was playing a 27and game in the NHL and got a 15and starting with the Jets this season.

Kyle Connor scored a goal and had two assists to set a new single-season points record. His 92-point tally tops club captain Blake Wheeler’s 91-point seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Wheeler each had a goal and an assist. Pierre-Luc Dubois scored his 28and goal of the campaign, a personal high for the Agde center player.

The Flyers were shut out for the sixth time this season.

In just his fifth NHL game, rookie goaltender Felix Sandstrom stopped 23 of 26 heading for the Flyers goal.

Stars get last bye to playoffs

Joe Pavelski, 37, had two assists for a career-high single-season points and the Dallas Stars earned the final playoff ticket despite a 4-3 loss to the Coyotes. Arizona, Wednesday.

After a shootout win over the Golden Knights the night before, the Stars needed just one point to secure one of two berths for teams drafted in the Western Conference.

The Stars, who led 3-0 in the third period, got the point by hanging on to overtime.

Anton Stralman, Shayne Gostisbehere and Barrett Hayton led the charge for the Coyotes in the final twenty. Travis Boyd scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

Harri Sateri stopped 26 shots for the Coyotes.

Jani Hakanpaa, Tyler Seguin and Miro Heiskanen hit the target for the Stars.

Scott Wedgewood stopped 33 shots in the loss.
